Valve/Cam Cover Bolts - Torque settings
Hi all, I need some advice on torquing up the cam cover bolts. The manual states 43 to 78 in-lbs, however I keep snapping the screws off when I go to torque it up. There is of course a little oil around however i'm getting no where near even 10 in-lbs before one of them snaps! It took Mazda 2 weeks ...

Alternator belt problems
Hi all, I'm having issues with my alternator belt. Am onto my 4th alternator belt in 2 months, keep changing brands to try and fix the slippage that occurs on the odd occasion. I'm continually adjusting to the right tension, and nothing I do seems to sort out the problem. The belts are always the ri...

Strange squeal
Been getting a strange squeal from the engine bay whilst sitting in traffic and idling at lights....
Yes, have changed the belts very recently... no slippage... so they are out...
Was told by someone that it may be the alternator's bearings.. the car has done 180+k's...
Can anyone advise?

trying out the forum too!!!!!! check out: http://www.bpultimate.co.nz/ for 98 octane locations. By the way, up until 2 weeks ago I used 91 exclusively. I got 8.5l per 100km on 91 octane, which I though was pretty good. Just finished my first tank of 98. Got a return of 9.5l per 100km. Indeed the per...

Petrol grade
I've seen a few emails lately regarding petrol grades. Currently I have my NA running at 14 degrees and on 91. Been running pretty good, though have been pondering switching over to 98 from BP as I understand this fuel is pretty good... Opinions? If I do run my NA on 98 what degree BTDC should I adj...

Centre console / Radio Surround
Took the opportunity with the fantastic weather today to start pulling the interior out for a much needed cleanout. Having issues with the standard stereo, so I had to remove the surround to get at it. Unfortunately the centre surround was cracked here and there and just didn't survive the shock of ...

aircon/powersteer drive belt
Just curious to know whether anyone has simply removed this belt and gone without power steering and aircon simply to liberate a few extra kw? Will this damage the aircon/power steering in any way if the belt is removed? (I remember this topic a long time ago, however a google search of the archives...

Anyone know of this project?

Overheating NA mx5
Not at the time due to the heat... just got her home now, looked in the
radiator, coolant looks as per usual - though a little lower than normal
obviously.
Do you suggest a new cap and thermostat, system flush etc?

Overheating NA mx5
Hi all, On my way home tonight in rain and heavy traffic and i noticed the temp gauge creeping up, the "charge" light came on and the steering got a little heavier. Stopped the car, checked it all over, no leaks, though the coolant level in the side tank looked a little higher... waited for a while ...

Small number plate
Evening,
Anybody know of any place in Akl where I can get a small number plate made up
for me?
I did a google search of the mx5club website to no avail, though there seemed
plenty of historic discussion on the legal aspects of fitting one.
Thanks!

Battery
Hi all, I've just pulled the battery out and discovered it's lead acid. Can anyone tell me if any of the generic automotive shops sell the dry cell battery, or will I have to wait till monday for Mazda to open? Also I think I remember that my first mx5 had a vented lead acid battery... (could be wro...

Rejoined!
Hi list, Tonight I have finally bought my 2nd mx5. Its been 3+ years since I sold my first, unfortunately a company car at the time and no space for a 2nd car made me do it. Every time I have seen mx5's flicking by me since, I dreamed of the times I had... top down on the open road... night and day....
