The 1.8 pads are bigger in area than the 1.6 so regardless of pad material you are getting bigger grip.

I recommend you get the correct springs that go between the pads to prevent rattles. I did the upgrade on my 1990 and the pad rattle drove me mad. Finally got springs and clips from a place in the UK. Problem solved. Also you will need to extract the rubber inserts from the old brackets. These were ...

Problem solved. Tony from Steely Gears took the diff out and replaced the pinion bearings which had been killed by the spring from the left axle seal. The spring had inexplicably come off and wreaked havoc. Part of the spring was still lodged next to the bearing. All good now and back on the road. A...

Are the NA8 front calipers the same as the NA6?

I have used my NA6 front calipers with 1.8 rotors and mounts and just wondered if the NA8 front calipers are in fact different even though the NA6 bolt up OK?

Good job. Did you have springs for the pads?

Mine did not rattle right away but later on got very rattly and I took a while to figure the source of the rattle.

Enjoy the stopping power.

I have done the upgrade and brakes are definitely more authoritative. What went wrong for me was that I had brand new caliper mounts so needed to remove the rubber insert for the lower caliper pin. I managed after a lot of sweat. The process that succeeded for me was to use a thin piece of stiff wir...

Have a BP05 exhaust cam and a BP22 intake cam

Was thinking of doing exintake mod but wonder if the BP22 cam may be better. Anybody played with either mod?

Hi I had that problem and it turned out to be the alternator not charging properly. You can check if your alternator is working by checking the voltage at the battery with the engine running. The manual wil tel you the voltage you should see which is from memory above 13 volts. I had a couple of lig...

I have noticed that the rattle goes away with the slightest pressure on the brake pedal. I also did the big brake conversion. I do not have spring wire installed on the back of the pads. Could that be it? Was there something like that on the 1800 brakes?

Cheers

I had time on the weekend to check the right hand side which I believe the noise is coming from. Everything is tight there I fluxing caliper bolts. I did tighten the upper ball joint by a third of a turn. Hard to figure the torque on this bolt. Replaced the cotter pin but overall I don't think there...

New suspension now noisy

Hi guys a few months ago I replaced all my shocks on my NA with new KYB units. I also replaced the boots on the upper ball joints on the A arms and repacked with grease. The new shocks made a noticeable difference to the ride and handling compared with the old originals with 200 k on them BUT there ...

New KYB shocks are in

Got them from Stocks and did the job Saturday and half of Sunday. I replaced the boots over the upper A arm ball joints. They were both split but the joints still had grease in them and seem OK. Meant I had to remove the upper A arm to do the job but this went smoothly. Fitted the new ones using a 3...

Job done

With more time to hand the boot removal from the caliper mounts went well. I used penetrating oil and a 2mm diameter piece of wire about 150 mm long. From the back of the mount I carefully pushed the boot aside and gently push the wire between the boot and the hole wall that it fits into. Using quit...

Checked with Mazda today and they can get me the boots at $50 a side. I declined that kind offer and am going to have a go at pushing out the boots on the weekend. It is the bottom one that is the problem as it goes all the way through the mount. Top one is just a snap on external job. Will use pene...
