I wish, lobes on #1 are facing outward at TDC.

There is mention on US forums of the HLA needing oil pressure to start working properly, which may be the cause but I wouldn't think so. And can't run the car to get pressure unless I sit there cranking for ages

Valves not closing

Hi All, I am doing a 1.8 swap with a motor from a '93 i believe (BP05 anyway). Long story short, the valves don't seem to be closing properly (leaving a few mm gap all the way around). Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Background as follows which may/may not help with the diagnos...

My bonnet rattles at times, perhaps check the latch for yours?
Other than that, getting under the car and checking all suspension components for play often reveals something loose (exhaust is common)

Race Series

I know there are a few on here who race your MX-5s, just wondering what series these are? I'm quite keen to work towards racing of some form but not sure where to start, i know of 2k cup which is an option but my car won't qualify, and MX5 cup would be good except its mostly at Manfield. Any suggest...

Stop tech street pads from Rock Auto in the states. I tired them as someone on here recommended them and they're awesome. $140ish landed

A proper half cage could be the way to go, probably should have one for safety anyway.

Bracing

So there's a lot of braces out there, and a lot of varying opinions What are your thoughts? My car is an 89 so has zilch and i don't believe the factory brace from later model will fit due to lack of tabs. Any recommendations that are available locally that would be great also as freight would be ho...

Another thing, while I have the car jacked up and somewhat apart to do the poly bushings, is there anything anyone would recommend to replace/check (not related to the clunk just maintenance wise)?

Finally got round to checking today. Driveshaft didnt seem to have any excessive play. It could be the exhaust hitting diff flanges, but I'm not convinced. Didn't get a chance to check alignment bolts etc, but everything's coming out for new bushings over the next few weeks so will get a better look...

Rear end clunk

Hi Guys I've been getting a clunking from the back end of my '89 when accelerating hard, it's kind of like the tyres are almost letting go and something is moving back and forward creating a clunk. It's been happening quite a while, originally thought it was my struts moving but have changed them an...

Welded diff?

Hi Guys My current diff is either open or a very worn VLSD. I would like a decent Torsen or other LSD but at this stage don't have funds and they seem relatively hard to come by in NZ. My question is, for a car that will be doing track days and gymkhana/skid pad days, is a welded diff going to be be...
