Sorry to hear that too. Always gone for my warrant with the top down, tonneau on, and never an issue. Not even a glance at the lid. A discrete enquiry with the inspectors might be in order for clarification. They are after all, people, not Gods to be feared. . . .

Those type are not too convenient if you're doing quite a few gear changes as they get in the way of your arm. Have one of these installed on the transmission tunnel just forward of the brake lever. Got it from a marine/boat supplier locally, about $6 iirc. One of our Fives has two installed, one ea...

How to hunt for good NB MX6 in trademe

Don't go beating yourself up about missing a few of the subtlties between the respective models, there's a ton of them even to the 'trained' eye. You keep mentioning the difference between the 1.6 and the 1.8 but not specifically to the NA or the NB (just to add to the confusion, the NB has been imp...

All they need to do now is release some new colours, yellow might be
nice for a change, anything to get away from the dreary greys. No
offence fellas, just saying. . . .

fixing the seatbelt retractor

Similar problem to mine last year. Put up with it for a bit, dri-lube was a short term fix, & in the end still stopped working altogether. Could't be arsed to fix something being a major safety issue (in my books), I bought a new belt & installed it. Fast, simple & cheap I reckon. Off the shelf item...

Need help with air conditioning problem

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago in my 4WD. The Tech-sperts checked it over & found nothing particularly wrong with the units. (Got my '94 Five checked @ same time) What they did advise however: that on a hot day, really hot day, to put the air selector to Recirc & the aircon will work ...

It happened on my '94 J-Spec-11 and the repair was quite successful despite the crankshaft nose keyway being damaged. According to mine the one you ask about is for the seat belts. You probably do not have the switch connected to the NZ Standard replacements belts like a lot of us. My 'Heat' no longer works since the local Mazda agency disconnected the sensor for me on the 'zorst instead of hitting me up for a $750...

One could also purchase a Stebel Nautilus & instal this compact unit. It IS
loud, but a quick tap on the horn button will result in a lower tone. Better
still, buy the Nautilus AND do what Grant suggests.

Haad a similar problem to mine and found the contacts in the light housing switch were loose and makining intermittent contact.
